01 — What it was

A web app for tracking job applications, scholarships, grants and funding rounds in one place, built for an individual founder.

02 — Why it mattered

Applicants juggle deadlines across many kinds of opportunity. TroveDesk puts them in one list.

03 — My role

Sole QA engineer, freelance, on a small team: a product manager, a developer, a UI/UX designer and others. I didn’t build the product.

04 — Technical problems

As the only QA engineer, I had to cover the entire system myself, manually and with automation, before its release to production.

05 — What I did

Tested the entire system by hand and with automated Playwright tests, and gave the founder what they needed to release it to production with confidence.

06 — Tools

Playwright; manual testing

  • Playwright
  • Manual testing

07 — Result

Released to production, with the founder confident in the release.

08 — What I learned

Being the only QA engineer meant the release decision leaned on my testing. I learned to make what I had checked clear to the founder, so going to production was an informed decision rather than a leap.
